This one-hour lecture will review recent publications concerning scleral lenses, focusing on those that were published in the past year and including research related to ocular physiology and health related to scleral lens wear, as well as case series and clinical research.

  • Understand how the level of optical aberration present in an eye is measured and reported. 
  • Consider the optical consequence of high levels of ocular aberration, from the patient’s point of view.  
  • Understand the correction strategies currently employed in the clinic when correcting the highly aberrated eye and their limitations.
  • Become aware of novel correction strategies under development for the highlyaberrated eye, such as wavefront guided soft contact lenses, wavefront guidedscleral contact lenses, template-based contact lens corrections.
  • Be able to identify the advantages/limitations of currently available corrections and novel forms of correction.
