The Scleral Lens Education Society (SLS) was born from discussions among its founding members to share scleral lens knowledge and introduce more practitioners to the field of scleral lenses. In 2009, the SLS was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit status and the following mission was established:
To provide instruction and training to contact lens practitioners about the science and art of scleral contact lens fitting for the purpose of improving and developing their capabilities in managing corneal irregularity and ocular surface disease and to support public education that highlights the benefits and availability of scleral contact lenses.
The SLS has grown to nearly 7,000 members and 275 Fellows worldwide.
